Sue joined the Exeter Golf Club in 1992, following in the footsteps of her parents, Bill and Irene Stoward, who are both Life Members of the Club.
Over the past 34 years Sue has held the following Honorary positions:

EGC Secretary 2000
EGC Treasurer 2000 – 2002
EGC President 2016 – 2018
EGC Captain from 2019 to current day
Sue’s commitment and contribution to the Club as an unpaid volunteer culminated in 2021 when she was awarded Life Membership.
Recently, Sue turned 70, leading to several celebrations both inside and outside the Club.
A post and photo on our Facebook page, congratulating Sue, generated 90 comments and 167 thumbs up, many from EGC members but also members of other clubs, local community members and businesspeople, West Tamar Councillors and even a Tasmanian Government Minister.
Here are just a few of the comments:

Why the Accolades?
The Club has competitions every Tuesday, Wednesday (Veterans) and Saturday. Most times, Sue is first to arrive at the Club and last to leave.
This enables players to be registered, allocated groups and tee off locations and, presented by Sue, with prizes, medals etc. to the day’s winners. For many events, score cards need to be manually prepared necessitating earlier starts, especially when fields regularly exceed 50 players.
Sue draws up the bar roster for members with Responsible Service of Alcohol accreditation, including herself, and distributes a month in advance.
Board meetings are held the last Wednesday of each month. Sue writes up the minutes of each meeting and distributes to Board Members and posts on the notice board.
Sponsorship is a vital part of keeping EGC financially stable and Sue’s involvement and relationships with the West Tamar business community has enabled the Club to have a major sponsor and sponsorship for all Saturday competitions and all 18 tee beds.
Sue handles all bookings for the club rooms including special events such as birthdays, wakes, functions, luncheons, Melbourne Cup Day etc. and is present on the day to ensure everything goes to plan.
Additionally, we often receive bookings for groups that wish to enjoy the EGC facilities i.e. play a round of golf, have a few beers and perhaps a barbeque. The groups are diverse and may be from a football or cricket club, a social club, interstate party travelling around Tasmania, a business staff event etc. Again, Sue is the Meet and Greet, gets everyone organised and stays the whole day. Generally, that becomes another full Sunday at the Club for Sue but the response from attendees is always appreciative and grateful. Many groups rebook and are an annual fixture at the Club.
The Club now has a new website www.exetergolfclub.com.au which includes news and results of the comps. Sue complies the results and forwards them to the website and Facebook administrators, along with photos, for publication. Results are also published in the Examiner.
Social players and visitors can book a tee time online. Some of them require clubs, buggies and even a cart to hire. No problem, Sue meets them before hit-off time to ensure they are ready to go.
Google testimonials include:
“Incredible hidden gem. Me and my mate travelling through Tasmania had an amazing round here. Conditions were immaculate! A special thanks to Sue for the memento ball as we are from Exeter back in the UK and friendly groundskeeper!” Jamie Smith
"A beautiful little nine-hole course in a stunning part of Tasmania. The fairways were in great condition and the welcome from members couldn't have been warmer." Mark T
"Such a friendly club. We dropped in as visitors and were treated like locals. Scenic, well-kept and a real hidden gem in the Tamar Valley." Sarah L.*
"One of the most welcoming clubs we've played at while in Tasmania. Affordable, picturesque and run by people who clearly love the place." David M.
As the face of the Club, these testimonials show Sue’s welcoming nature to visitors and expectation that our Club members are the same.
Being in a location set back from the main road, the EGC clubhouse is electronically monitored with security cameras and alarms. For many years, and still, Sue receives occasional calls from Chubb, at ungodly hours, advising of a possible break in or a dodgy activity and takes whatever action is required.
The Exeter Golf Club is thriving with current membership over 160 and enjoying great recent success against other similar sized clubs. Sue has helped, as a player, the Club to retain in 2026 both the Boags Cup (Exeter vs Deloraine vs Thirlstane vs Sheffield) and EGG Cup (Exeter vs Greens Beach vs Georgetown). Additionally, Sue is well known throughout the state for her participation in County Week and many events held by other clubs, often with successful outcomes. This is reciprocated when it is Exeter’s turn to host and everyone knows that, under Sue’s leadership, a first-rate event will be conducted.
In closing, the Board of Directors and the members of the Exeter Golf Club enthusiastically recommend Sue Clark to be considered for The Sports Minister’s Community Club Champion.
